Using Progesterone Cream helps get rid of Adenomyosis

How Much Progesterone Cream Should I Use for Adenomyosis?

For the first 1-2 months cut out all xenoestrogens. Then during the next two to three months use 40-60 mg/day of natural progesterone for adenomyosis. Use it from days 6-26. Day 1 is the first day of the period. This comes out to using 1 1/2 - 3 oz of progesterone cream/oil per month assuming each oz contains 500 mg - 1000 mg of Natural Progesterone per oz of cream/oil. After the uterus revert to normal, use one half ounce to one ounce per week. Women who have a great amount of body fat may need more.

by Elizabeth Smith, M.D.

I like to treat adenomyosis with stopping all xenoestrogens for the first 1-2 months, and NOT taking Natural Progesterone at first. This gives time for the xenoestrogens to wash out of the body before starting Natural Progesterone. This way bloating and breast tenderness will be decreased and NOT increased. Then, start the Natural Progesterone. John Lee, M.D. treats adenomyosis with 40-60 mg/day of topical natural progesterone for the first 2-3 months. Use it from days 6-26. Day 1 is the first day of the period. After the adenomyosis gets better, then he maintains the patient on 20 mg/day. However, the patient must find the lowest dose that works for her since every patient metabolizes and absorbs topical progesterone differently. The ovary usually produces 20 mg/day of progesterone. During the third trimester of pregnancy, the placenta produces 400 mg/day of progesterone. Thus, there is a very large therapeutic range for the use of Natural Progesterone. Natural progesterone is quite safe to use in doses from 20 mg/day to 400 mg/day. Natural Progesterone is the same molecule that your body produces. In contrast, many of the synthetic estrogens and progestins are chemically modified from the natural molecule and are dangerous to use. See Progestins. Thus, Natural Progesterone is safe for you to use in a very large varying dose.

If the cream or oil contains 1000 mg/oz , use one half ounce of cream per week before chemical lab for adenomyosisbefore menses, then this comes out to about one half (1/2) teaspoon per day. The cream can be applied to any part of the skin with good circulation. The area may be on the neck, chest, legs, arms, thighs, palms, or soles of the feet. The cream is applied once in the morning and once before bedtime. Some patients experience mild drowsiness after application of the cream. If so, one application before bedtime is fine, or reduce the dose to stop sleepiness.

IF symptoms such as breast tenderness and bloating (water retention) worsen, STOP the Natural Progesterone immediately, and STOP all xenoestrogens immediately. Wait 1-2 months, for the xenoestrogens to wash out of the body. Then, try the Natural Progesterone again.

You should feel some difference in 10 days. If you do not feel some difference, then your skin may not be absorbing Natural Progesterone. Oral Natural Progesterone may be used in this case. The oral dose is 10 times that of the topical dose or 200-400 mg orally per day.

Since progesterone is an oil soluble molecule, it is absorbed into the body fat. The body fat acts like a reservoir or sponge and soaks up the progesterone. Thus, women who have much body fat may need to take greater amounts of progesterone for it to work. Skinny women may need to take less progesterone. After using natural progesterone for a while, you will learn what feels better. One sign that you are taking too much is that you become too happy when taking progesterone and when you stop taking progesterone you become depressed. Or you may feel sleepy. If this is the case, you may be taking too much. Use whatever dose works for you!

Summary

  • Cut out all xenoestrogens for 1-2 months first with no Natural Progesterone. Use a progesterone cream that gives you 40-60 mg/day of natural progesterone per day from days 6-26 for the next 2-3 months.
  • If the progesterone cream/oil contains 1000 mg/day, for the first 2-3 months use 1/2 ounce of cream/oil per week; this is about one half (1/2) teaspoon per day.
  • If the progesterone cream/oil contains 1000 mg/day, after the uterus reverts to normal after 3-12 months, use one half to one ounce of cream/oil per month to maintain a healthy uterus. Find the lowest dose that works for you.
  • Apply the cream during the three weeks before menses for 21 days.
